How to Spend a Weekend in Maine
There’s a reason why Maine is called Vacationland. Between the mountains, beaches, rivers, and so much more, Maine is the perfect place to explore on your next vacation. This blog will outline how to spend a weekend in The Forks, Maine.
Drive to The Forks:
Only 2.5 hours from Portland, 4 hours from Boston, and 8 hours from New York, The Forks is the perfect driving distance for a weekend getaway.
Set Up camp:
Three Rivers offers a variety of lodging options! Book a campsite, a bunkhouse, or even a glamping unit. If you are staying with us, check in at our Trading Post Store and then head across 201 to get your campsite all set up.
Friday night is karaoke night at Boatman’s Bar and Grill! Order some food and drinks and get ready to sing your heart out! If karaoke isn’t your thing, take your drinks outside and chill by our massive bonfire!
The Forks is the ultimate whitewater rafting destination sitting right at the confluence of the Kennebec and Dead Rivers. Spend your Saturday rafting a 12-mile long stretch of the Kennebec River and experience the thrill of class IV whitewater rapids and the gorgeous scenery of Maine’s pristine wilderness. After your trip, we’ll feed you lunch, show you pictures of the action, and then the rest of the day is yours!
If you still have some energy after your rafting trip, check out one of The Forks’ numerous hiking trails! Moxie Falls is an easy 2-mile-hike that takes you to stunning views of the tallest single-drop waterfall in Maine. If you’re looking for mountain views, Mosquito Mountain is a 15-minute drive from the Three Rivers Base. Only a 2.7 mile hike, the views from the top of Moxie pond and the surrounding area are absolutely stunning!
Dinner and Live Music:
Head back to the Boatman’s Bar and Grill and enjoy some dinner and drinks! Boatman’s often has live music on Saturday nights so make sure to check that out.
If you’re looking for a hearty breakfast, friendly service, and a beautiful view of the Kennebec River, the Inn by the River is the place to go! Stop by and make sure to check out their breakfast cocktails!
One day on the river wasn’t enough? Have a chill day and enjoy a relaxing 2 hour float down the Kennebec River on tubes. Soak up some rays and make sure to get an extra tube for your cooler so you can enjoy all your favorite drinks and snacks on the water!
The hardest part of the weekend is saying goodbye. Luckily the memories you’ve made on your Maine adventure will last a lifetime! Just don’t forget to swing by the Three Rivers Trading Post Store before you hit the road to stock up on snacks!
