General Overview:

Leave the distractions and your worries behind – The Kennebec River Overnight Trip is a 2 day getaway into the Maine Wilderness.  With kayaking, camping, star gazing, and rafting – there’s no shortage of Serious Fun on your journey from Moosehead Lake back to The Forks. This is more than just a vacation, it’s an experience!

Check-In:

Your river trip will be run out of our Forks Fun Resort in The Forks, ME. Check-in for your Kennebec Overnight River Trip starts at 9:30am. Here, you will meet the guides who will be with you every step of the way for the next two days. They will help you pack your camping gear into dry bags and outfit you with river gear. Soon you will be on a bus ride to Moosehead Lake. From there, you will cover over 25 miles on the water until you end up back at the base.

Your Kennebec Overnight Adventure:

After a bus ride with some amazing views along Moosehead Lake, you will arrive at the East Outlet. Here your guides will prepare your inflateable kayaks and give you a safety briefing on how to use them.

Following the lead of your guides, you will paddle your kayaks over 3 miles through Class I, II, and III Whitewater rapids. There is so much fun to be had on this stretch of river and the scenery is amazing. The last rapid of the day is the biggest rapid of the day. Your guides will let you watch them run the rapid from shore, then you take your turn. The best part is that this rapid can be run over and over again as you can walk your boats back up shore for more thrills.

Once you’re done with the last rapid, the Guides will prepare a riverside lunch for you. You’ll fill up on snacks and sandwiches before being towed by a motor boat to our campsite.

Situated on the shore of Indian Pond, our overnight campsite is boat-access only. When you first get there, your guides will help you get set up in your tents for the night. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon and paddle around to explore the area. The view from shore offers an unobstructed view to the west – as you enjoy the sunset, your guides will be preparing you dinner.

Post dinner is the time for swapping stories around the campfire, games, dessert, and amazing stargazing. With zero light pollution for miles around, this may be the clearest night sky you’ve ever seen. After you take it all in, head to bed to rest up for another big day of paddling!

You will awake to the smell of breakfast prepared by your guides. As you sit to enjoy your eggs, sausage, and hashbrowns, your guides will start packing up camp. Soon you will be back on Indian Pond making your way to Harris Station Dam and the start of your Kennebec River rafting trip

Before you hit the river, you will learn your guide’s commands and practice paddling. As a team, you will carry your raft down to the river’s edge. When you begin your Maine rafting trip, don’t forget to take in the scenery – the steep rock walls that line both sides of the river are stunning.

Your first rapid is a Class II rapid – this serves as warm up for the bigger rapids downstream. Soon after, you will be charging into Seriously Fun Class IV rapids like Big Mama and The Alleyway. Many people compare these big, splashy sections of river to a roller coaster ride – except way more fun!

After the first section of major rapids, your trip will stop to enjoy “The Cathedral” – a calm section of river with amazing views. Here your guide will go over the plan for the biggest and most exciting rapid of the day – Magic Falls. This is where the stoke levels will reach their peak!

For the next few miles, you will tackle 3 fun and splashy Class III rapids. Once you’re through the final rapid of the day, you’ll get to enjoy a 6 mile float through the heart of Maine’s wilderness. Your guide will provide you with a snack and be on the lookout for Bald Eagles. Don’t forget to hop in the river and go for a float – It’s plenty deep in most places and the water will be about 70 degrees in the middle of the summer!

Post-Trip:

Your Kennebec River Overnight Trip concludes with a 3 minute bus ride back to the Forks Fun Resort. Once we are back to the base, your Guides will prepare lunch for you. During lunch you can grab some drinks from the Boatman’s Bar & Grill. After you eat you’ll watch the photo/video presentation to see how you and your crew looked while conquering the Class IV Rapids. This concludes your unforgettable 2 day Kennebec Overnight Experience!
