How long have you worked in the Outdoor Industry?
I’ve worked at a few outdoor summer camps in years past. but when I joined Three Rivers in 2022, It was my first real job working outdoors as a guide, and I’ve been in love ever since!
What is your origin story working for Three Rivers Whitewater?
My dad trained with Three Rivers in 2013, and I’ve been rafting with my family since age 7. Growing up on the Kennebec river, I have gotten to love and know it very well. I knew that as soon as I turned 18 I wanted to go for my guide license. Training with Three Rivers was a no brainer. My dad claimed that it was one of the most life changing experiences he ever had, and I wanted to follow in his footsteps. Also the idea of spending summers in my favorite place doing what I loved (for work) was honestly a dream.
When it came time for the training, college and work were both overwhelming, I had filled out the application but didn’t feel completely prepared and started to have doubts. My dad really urged me to go through with it. He let me know how much the training changed his mindset and way of life for the better and I knew that it was something I would not regret. It is by far one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have found such a loving family and really grew my love for rafting.
What do you love most about being a Maine River Guide?
I love that I can work outside in a place that I love, and that I can share that love with other people!
What is your favorite rapid to guide in Maine?
My favorite rapid to guide is by far the Alleyway on the Kennebec river. I love the cowboy waves, it’s like riding a real life water roller coaster.
What is your favorite hike in Maine?
I love Mosquito Mountain in The Forks. When you reach the top there is a beautiful view of all the trees, hills and bodies of water surrounding the mountain.
What do you enjoy doing when not working?
Fiddling around on instruments with my friends, laying in my hammock, and rafting of course!
Favorite experience on the river?
Probably the first time I brought my friends from college rafting after getting my license. It was really exciting getting to confidently guide them down the river.
